The Vibes: Light Bodied, Elegant, Strawberries, Stalky, Unfiltered, Juicy
Friends would say: This is a pretty bottle indeed, on the nose it has the finest of fragrances and fills the room soon as it enters. Wafts of wild meadows abound, with wonderful violet aromas. In the mouth it hits with classic pinot noir, fresh cut strawberries and red fruits with lasting impression of juicy ripeness.
The Banter: Marie-Pierre Chevassu-Fassenet took over her family’s wine estate in 2008 and manages her 4.5 hectares from vine to cellar door herself. She uses indigenous yeast, her grapes are also harvested and de-stemmed by hand. The wine is unfined and unfiltered, and aged at ambient temperatures. The result tastes like a bowl of late-harvest cherries, with a whisper of cinnamon and vanilla, as well as a subtle earthiness. It also has a prickle of carbonation when first poured (Posh word for fizz), which dissipates with a few good swirls.
The First Date: Jura is a region in France close to Burgundy. Jura is not a super common region so wines from this area can be a little bit quirky and different given the cold climate, but treasures can be found none the less.
